Konchucos Tambo Lodge in Huaraz Peru

In the heart of the Andes is the entryway to the little- known Konchukos Valley - an experimental farm turned 18 room ecolodge called Konchukos Tambo. The Konchukos Valley is home to the pre-Inca site of Chavin de Huantar (UNESCO World Heritage Site), to traditional Andean textile weavers and stone sculptors and to some of the best preserved remnants of high Andean polylepis forest and lagoons. Thus, Konchukos Tambo is an excellent base for treks on the little known but spectacular eastern slopes of the Huascaran National Park , or an acclimatization point for explorations on the popular western slopes, or as a stand alone to explore an Andean region untouched by tourism.

Konchukos Tambo is located in the state of Ancash, north of Lima , Peru , at 3200 meters above sea level, adjacent to the eastern slopes of Huascaran National Park .

Konchukos Tambo is easy to get to. From Lima it is 480 kilometers by road, the final 43 of them in the process of being paved. The drive takes about seven hours. From Huaraz , it is 117 kilometers , or two hours away (the same 43 unpaved kilometers end the journey). Konchukos Tambo is located on a slope that dominates the left margin of the Mosna River , 10 kilometers north of Chavin.
