Konchukos Tambo was leased by the Asociacion Ancash to Explorandes in 2005 with two purposes – developing a variety of trekking and off-the-beaten path programs that would spearhead tourism to this little visited region and hosting courses and workshops on tourism and handicrafts for the valley’s inhabitants. Hopefully, in the future, our efforts will bear these fruits, but it is too soon to tell. Meanwhile we have concentrated on a few key actions to get started off in the right direction.

First and foremost we have listened. We have started to understand the worries and dreams of the people who run the small tourism businesses in Chavin and San Marcos (hotels, restaurants, mountain auxiliary associations, small tour operators) and are beginning to work in those directions
