These programs entail a half or full day activity and depart upon request with a specified minimum number of passengers. During our Day Adventures, we provide transportation, guide and a box lunch, as well as the necessary equipment required for the specific activity. During certain day hikes we will walk from 4-6 hours.
Inca Durmiente Hike
The hike begins behind the lodge, heading on a steep ascent during three hours to the Inca Durmiente, or sleeping Inca - the profile of the ridge reminds us of it. The trail has farmers home and small plots of potatoes, barley, corn and high Andean tubers and grains such as oca, olluco and tarwi (Lupinus). The ridge has a fantastic panoramic view of the Conchucos Valley and the Cordillera Blanca, making it worth the hike. The descent to the lodge is shorter, and we will be back by mid afternoon.

From there we will hike down through ancient Inka trails, water drainages and bridges during two hours reaching the Ayash community and Cayesh Punta pass, where, on sunny days, you can see the sun setting down over the Cordillera Blanca. Carhuayoc Valley Hike
We will begin this four hour hike in the valley of Carhuayoc, where we will visit textile weavers in their backyard shops. Amongst the guinea pigs and drying corn in their gardens, these farmers became artists, giving a demonstration how marvelous tapestries are woven in intricate wooden looms inherited from their grandfathers. From there we will follow a mountain trail to return to the town of San Marcos. We finish the hike taking a visit to Mrs. Dora's wood collection and a magnolia greenhouse.

Chavin de Huantar Archaeological site
Ten minutes by car from the lodge are the archaeological remains of Chavin de Huantar, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This ceremonial center was the most important of the Pre-Hispanic Andean cultures from around 800 BC, when the first expansive Andean culture, known as Chavin, built it. Being subject to centuries of natural and manmade destruction (it was used as a quarry), its scenery, massive stonework, labyrinthine tunnels, elaborate drainage and ventilation, its carved heads and lithic artwork present a unique image of prehispanic Peru. After visiting the ruins we will visit the handicraft workshops to see what stone or textile handicrafts are in stock for shopping.
